Published research areas
Fields in which this compound appears in the published literature. These describe where the research sits, not what it concluded.
- Cellular energy metabolism
- The coenzyme's role in oxidation-reduction reactions is foundational biochemistry, and the literature is correspondingly large and old.
- Sirtuin and enzyme studies
- Used as a substrate in work on enzymes that consume it, which is a substantial part of current published research.
- Aging research models
- Investigated in laboratory models examining changes in coenzyme availability with age.
What the analysis should cover
- This is not a peptide, and several standard peptide analyses simply do not apply. There is no sequence to confirm, and net peptide content is not a meaningful figure for it.
- Identity by mass spectrometry, supported by the characteristic ultraviolet absorbance of the nicotinamide and adenine components.
- Purity by HPLC with the chromatogram reproduced. The relevant impurities are its own breakdown products rather than truncated sequences.
- Water content, which matters more here than for most material — it is markedly hygroscopic.
How to read a certificate of analysis covers what each of these measurements establishes.
Handling and stability
- Considerably more moisture-sensitive than a typical freeze-dried peptide, and it draws water from room air quickly once a container is open.
- Sensitive to alkaline conditions, under which it degrades faster than most peptides would.
- Stored cold, dry and dark in the sealed container as supplied.
Why peptides ship freeze-dried sets out the reasoning behind these conditions.
